Give away some Levi's this Christmas

Me, Foodie

Oh yes, I am foodie. In quality and quantity. I am partial to: dark chocolate, steaks, sashimis, cheeses, pasta, crustaceans, and Mediterranean food. Buffet lines have me taking on the starters and the desserts and pretty much skipping everything in between.

I prefer red wine, love dry beer, avoid cocktails, but am on a general alcohol fast for the time being. I have to avoid coffee too, one of the culprits to my insomnia. Soda is my nemesis; keep them away from me. I'm not much of a snacker but once you get me started on clover, potato, and nori chips, it's pretty hard to stop. Yes, my EQ is very low.

When it comes to restaurants, I will always choose the new, untried one over old time favorites. I will eat ox testicles just to avoid going to Luk Yuen, my husband's default resto. Which is not say that I don't have my comfort food providers. When I don't want to think and experiment, my no-brainer choices are Pancake House (pan-chicken!) and KFC. I traverse a pretty wide range of price points - from jolly jeep to fine dining.

Sometimes I wish I can cold turkey on food. But then, life would not be as much fun, would it?

My Booklust

I love books. Understatement alert.

It seems though that my love for acquiring them surpasses my love for reading them. Hence, these reviews are meant to assuage my guilty conscience. Through this site, I am feeding the illusion that I am accomplishing something. My reviews are not at all academic. I'm not using any theoretical frameworks. Marxist and feminist theories will remain undisturbed in the spider-webbed attic of my brain. It's mostly speaking from my gut reaction to the books I read. Sometimes I go off tangent and start talking about concepts the book inspired me to ponder over.

As to my book preferences, I have a mixed bag (i hate to say eclectic) of genres - almost equally split between fiction and non-fiction. For fiction, my favorite authors are Jose Saramago, Margaret Atwood, and Carol Shields, but I'm still discovering more. I'm willing to try almost everything, but I have an unexplained aversion to fantasy genres. I'm trying though. Being part of the shelfari group, Flips Flipping Pages, we have discussed a number of books, all of them fantasy, that I probably wouldn't read in other circumstances.

My non-fiction books include: biographies, art, fashion, home, photography, crafts, culinary, travel, Christian, and a lot of books I use for my teaching and training professions. Lots of books about communication. I particularly like Sage publications.
